Whether you call them tributes or clones, there's no denying the fact that there are a lot of homebrew games inspired from many well known video game franchises. Case in point is developer Dark_Momo's Mario Kart PSP v1.0 for the PlayStation Portable.
The latest version 1.0 of the game includes several improved features such as 4 new playable levels and 3 different racers to choose from (Mario, Luigi, or Wario). For your reference, here's the complete list of the changelog of the game:
- Improved graphics of the first 3 levels.
- 4 new levels playable.
- 3 different characters available.
- New main menu.
This Lua-based homebrew game includes a Readme.txt file which you should make sure to take a look at before installing it on your handheld. Anyway, we hope you enjoy this amusing Mario Kart-like game.

Let's call it a joint project of Freshmilk and PSP_Bling (Bling did the artwork here), but either way, this new version of TTR Kxploited really rocks. All the suggestions and PMs from you guys from the previous version have inspired Freshmilk to really come up with new features for TTR v0.6
PSP_Bling Freshmilk's cool Table Top Rally game has just got even better, with a new version of course! As for you who don't know, its a car-dodging game but with great add-ons like interchangebale background, hot custom cars and cool music
Five hours in and xslayer91's just released not just one notch of an upgrade, not just two. But four! From a v0.01 release earlier this afternoon, PSRacer is now speeding up to v0.05. Talk about speed coding. We're not sure what the changes are between v0.01 and this one, but check out the changelog for the homebrew drag racer and its new features:
Vertex 3D Car Vertex 3D Car
QJ reader psphackman pointed us towards a new release from Vertex Origins on our PSP Development forums. The release is Vertex 3D Car version 0.1b, and even though it's still a beta demo, this new piece of homebrew looks pretty darn good. Here's the changelog for this version:
* A complete track is now added
Drag Racer Drag Racer
Wekilledbambi03 has emailed in a new version of his homebrew LUA game called "Drag Racer" for the PSP. The new version has an additional 13 cars to the 3 from the original release, varying difficulty depending on car choices, nitrous, high score saves, and you can save up to 10 screen shots showing your best times/speeds
Speed Reflex Speed Reflex
French homebrew developers Skity and Stewart just came up with a fun release known as Speed Reflex. This game is pretty much like a racing game but with a twist. During the course of the game, you will be met by several road blocks and you have to react in time to avoid the accident.
Also, a stopwatch has been enabled that records your reaction time
Drag Mini Drag Mini
Last time we mentioned Cools, we said that his game Drag Mini v.2 was his last version for the game. Guess he lied, then, which is a good thing!
With help from some other programmers, Cools has just come out with Drag Mini v.3 which he calls his "(probably) last version" of his racing game
PSRacer PSRacer You can never get enough racing titles for the PSP. If you are a racing game fan then PSP games such as Asphalt:Urban GT2 and Burnout Dominator probably take your fancy, but there are also many homebrew games out there to get you that tarmac-fuelled adrenaline buzz. The graphics may not be as refined as one of the above PSP titles buit for a first game PSRacer v0
